All situated and feeling comfortable? Awesome. Here we go:
You are not that big a deal. Yup, you. There are billions of people on this planet, and there is a good chance that there are hundreds of thousands, at least, who have similar skills and personality as you do. The fact of the matter is that you are not a special person who is completely unique and apart from the rest of humanity: you have more in common with the people around you than things that set you apart as different. Oh sure; you can try and make yourself stand out, but there are millions of people doing the same thing for the exact same reason.
Now here is the caveat. Just because you are not special does not mean you are not important, this applies to everyone else also, but you are the one that needs to hear it. You are important, you matter.
Think you don't matter? Go out and look for the first person that looks pissed off or depressed and give them the friendliest greeting you can: smile, wave, say 'hello'. There is a chance that they will get more irritated, or that they will scoff the effort, but most of the time they will just be happy that someone seemed to care even for a moment.
Although my natural state of mind is a combination of angry or confrontational - I don't get depressed; know why? Because I matter, I matter just as much as everyone else just like me. Every time I start to think maybe I don't; I say something or do something nice for someone.
Almost immediately I remember why I matter.
Seem like a bizarre post for a Deviant Art journal? It really isn't. Send a note to an artist telling them what they like about their work; be as detailed as possible, make it a real compliment not a pat on the back. Better yet; give this compliment to an artist that may not get a lot of fan comments, someone that needs to be encouraged more than the people who get to hear how great they are all the time. Be genuine and sincere, tell them what you like about their work without ever mentioning your own even once. Tell them what famous artist they remind you of. Tell them how much you are looking forward to seeing them improve.
Compliment someone who probably needs just that little bit of encouragement to keep them going when they feel like they can't draw as well as their favorite artists or even peers. Do this and you will matter, you will be important. Do this and you will have made a stronger impact than any amount of griefing, trolling, or spamming will have made you.
Do this and the world will be just a small bit better when you leave than it was when you entered.
